The amplitude of a sound wave determines its intensity (measured in dB) and expresses the strength with which the sound is produced.
Regarding vocal production, intensity depends on the air pressure from the lungs, the ability and degree of vocal cord closure, and the resonance capacity of the vocal tract tissues.
For this reason, osteopathic intervention on these structures and their somatic interrelations can facilitate a better coupling of the sound generated at the glottic source. Any pathological condition affecting glottic closure, muscle strength, subglottic pressure, or the amplitude of vocal fold vibrations will directly influence vocal intensity.
